Columbia 2nd Floor Lounge

When reading My Freshman Year, Nathan mentioned that the lounge was a place "to get away". Of course I have used the lounge to get away from the distractions in order to study, complete projects, and do homework but I have also used it to have hall meetings, birthday parties, super bowl parties, for craft projects, to watch movies with friends, play games or even to eat lunch with a group of friends. I now want to see how other people use this space and why they decided to come here.

I felt that sitting in the lounge for a half hour wouldn't allow me to collect enough data. So instead I decided to walk past my floor lounge almost every hour starting at 1pm and ending at 9pm for two days to see what information I can collect. From the data collected below you can see that students use the lounge for a variety of things. They also come to the lounge for many reasons. In addition I found the lounge to be rather empty. For the most part usually one student had the lounge to themselves or there was a small group studying together.
